Personal Art

I’ve loved art as long as I could remember, I used to pour over books of Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta paintings. My walls were plastered with calendars and posters by The Hildebrandt Brothers (and Billy Idol, of course!)

And Bob Ross? The man was a genius with the most soothing voice on the planet. Falling asleep to him painting was sheer bliss. I still watch those old videos with the kids. It’s hard to make it through more than one without drifting off to some wondrous place with those happy trees.

In high school art class, I fell in love with Georgia O’Keefe and have always adored Normal Rockwell, Thomas Kincaide and so many others. Anything with lots of light fascinated me. I even took my portfolio to Corcoran Art School in Washington DC, curious about a career in the arts. I was told my work was very good but I needed to expand my use of mediums.

I still love the Billy Idol look!

For some silly reason, this crushed me when it should have challenged me. I set down my pencils and brushes for a long time and didn’t make anything. I went on to become a military broadcaster, a webmaster, a software store manager, a web developer, a network administrator and even a mail delivery person at one point. And finally a published author (though I’ve written all my life.) Oh yeah- and the mother of five boys (two with special needs.) Along the way, I was always creating something- whether it was a story, a recipe, a log cabin made out of pretzels for a fifth grader, or a doodle for the kids.

It was my search for a cover for my first finished novel that pulled me into digital art. I couldn’t find what I envisioned, and the cover artist I’d hired claimed she couldn’t do what I wanted. I didn’t realize at the time that I needed a digital artist. In my search for solutions, I ended up becoming one!

Here is some of the personal art I’ve created over the past few years as I’ve grown as a digital artist. It’s quite a journey, and I continue to learn and grow every day. Click on any image to see the full version. (They are presented in random order.)

See something you like? I can take any of these images and customize it for you as a tailored premade cover. Contact me for more details.
